2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. 2025 Nissan Pathfinder

2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. 2025 Nissan Pathfinder

Fortunately for buyers in the US, automakers try hard to get shoppers' attention with plenty of strong choices in the mid-size SUV segment. Our article looks at an iconic Jeep branded product, the 2025 Grand Cherokee, and a Japanese contender in the shape of the latest 2025 Nissan Pathfinder.

Read on as we share details and important considerations like safety and cargo-carrying capability on offer to prospective owners.

2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee

No changes are in store for the 2025 edition of the two-row-seater Grand Cherokee. The current fifth-generation Grand Cherokee was first seen in 2021 with a few changes having been made since then.

Buyers get to choose from nine trim levels, from the Laredo trim level growing in price and features to the top of the pile, fully loaded Summit Reserve trim.

2025 Nissan Pathfinder

Nissan's fifth-gen mid-size Pathfinder SUV with its three rows of seats continues into 2025 with no changes aside from the now complementary Nissan Maintenance Care plan that includes up to three oil changes for the first two years or 24,000 miles of ownership.

The 2025 model is available in five trim grades: S, SV, Rock Creek, SL, and Platinum.

Exterior Comparison

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is 193.5 inches long,  77.5 inches wide and stands 70.8 inches tall with a wheelbase of 116.7 inches. Ground clearance is 8.4 inches which allows owners to tackle some mild off-road trails.

The Jeep is unmistakable as anything but a Jeep product with the iconic seven slat grille featuring in its modern design. Premium LED lighting is found with standard LED headlamps, taillamps and available fog lamps.

Jeep has used varying chrome and gloss black accents to differentiate trim levels on the lineup, and just some of the standout key exterior features include:

  • Gloss-Black Exterior Mirrors
  • Body-Color Door-Handles
  • Acoustic Laminated Door Glass
  • Deep-Tint Privacy Glass
  • Black / Gloss-Black Roof Rails

Depending on trim level, shoppers will get their Jeep with wheel options, from 17-inch alloys up to range-topping 21-inch polished aluminum wheels.

The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder is 197.7 inches long to accommodate that extra row of seats, 77.9 inches wide and 70.9 inches high.

The exterior highlights on the modern design include LED headlights with LED daytime running and LED taillights, UV-reducing solar glass, rear privacy glass, and a rear spoiler.

All Pathfinder Trims feature alloy wheels with a diameter of 18 inches to 20 inches.

Occasional off-road trail use is possible with the Pathfinder's standard ground clearance of 7.1 inches.

Interior Differences

The Grand Cherokee, with its two rows of seats, accommodates up to five passengers in a comfortable and well-appointed cabin space.

Plenty of creature comforts abound with luxury seating surfaces, 16-way adjustable seats with memory presets and massage modes, plus an interior multicolor ambient LED lighting system to set the mood.

Buyers of lower trims get all the essentials, with upper trims adding luxuries such as quilted leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim plus high-tech digital displays.

The eight-seater Nissan Pathfinder is trimmed in cloth as standard on lower S and SV trims, while SL trims get leather-appointed seating. The range-topping Platinum gets the quilted, semi-aniline leather seating treatment. Trim-dependent luxury features are such as heated front seats or a panoramic sunroof.

Travel storage in the Pathfinder is taken care of with conveniently integrated storage cubbies throughout the cabin, as well as numerous bins and pockets for smaller items like smartphones and sunglasses.

Cargo Space

The Grand Cherokee offers 37.7 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Further cargo-carrying space of up to 70.8 cubic feet is released in the Grand Cherokee once the second-row seats are folded down.

The Nissan features folding EZ Flex seating, allowing the second and third-row seats to fold down, making for a cargo space of 80.5 cubic feet, while an optional motion-activated liftgate makes life easier.

Infotainment

The Grand Cherokee offers an 8.4-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio, while in-dash navigation is optional with real-time traffic and weather updates.

Standard equipment includes a six-speaker stereo, with optional upgrades to a nine-speaker Alpine audio setup or an impressive premium 19-speaker McIntosh system.

Upper trim levels spoil owners with a digital gauge cluster, a 10.0-inch head-up display, and a further 10.3-inch display screen embedded in the dashboard for the use of front passengers.

An 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with a Nissan Connect software interface is standard in the Pathfinder. Upper SL and Platinum trims add a larger 9.0-inch display while Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto is standard across the range.

All trims use a six-speaker setup, while a 13-speaker Bose system is optional.

Top Platinum trims offer a 12.3-inch gauge cluster screen, a head-up display, and a 13-speaker Bose premium audio.

Powertrains Comparison

A 293-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 does duty in the Grand Cherokee with standard rear-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive system on the Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trim levels.

As expected of a Jeep product, some hardcore 4x4 options with different all-wheel-drive systems and an electronically controlled locking limited-slip differential are available.

The Jeep is able to tow up to 7,200 pounds when correctly equipped.

The Nissan Pathfinder is fitted with a 284 horsepower 3.5-liter, 24-valve direct injection gasoline V-6, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode.

Front-wheel drive is standard, with the option of an available all-wheel drive system that adds seven drive and terrain modes such as sand and mud/ rut mode.

The Nissan has a towing capability of 3,500 pounds across all trims, with a maximum of 6,000 pounds towing capability available depending on drivetrain options.

Safety Differences

The Jeep was awarded a 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick and offers standard features, including an automated emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and semi-autonomous driving modes, as well as standard adaptive cruise control.

The 2025 Pathfinder offers a Nissan Advanced airbag system plus numerous driver assistance features such as automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlamps.

Upper SV, SL, and Platinum trims include a semi-autonomous Pro Pilot Assist driving mode.
